What is Abseiling?
Abseiling is the controlled decsent down a vertical surface using specialist equipment. This equipment is designed to keep the participant safe at all times.
Abseiling is thought to be invented after a failed solo attempt at climbing Petit Dru by Jean Esteril Charlet.
Many years later abseiling is used for many different things everything from a recreational sport to a professional occupation.
Equipment
Abseiling has a large variety of equipment used for many different tasks. Below are detail on the equipment you will be using while abseiling with Edge.

Gloves
Although not mandatory gloves are a useful addition to abseiling as they prevent rope burn and help you control your decent.

Helmet
Helmets are used to protect you head from falling objects and are mandatory for all guest.
Harness
Harnesses are used in combination with carabineers and a decent device (see below) to keep you attached to the decent rope and the safety lines at all times
Carabineer & Figure of Eight
These metal devices are attached to the harness and the rope to help you control your decent of the cliff, it works by applying different amounts of friction to the rope to slow or speed up your abseil.
